When you think of taking action on climate change, what do you think of? Reusable bags and water bottles? Using energy efficient light bulbs and appliances? Maybe going vegan or eating less meat? All of these activities are related to greenhouse gas emissions, but what is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the state of California?

The State of California, buoyed by a $100 billion surplus, released its revised budget last Friday with big dollars for climate initiatives supporting clean water, electric vehicles and preparing for wildfire.

It’s no secret that Southern California is experiencing unprecedented heat waves and wildfires. These challenges must be addressed with cross-sectoral holistic solutions that prioritize marginalized communities.

As a kid, I was diagnosed with asthma. It didn’t stop me from living an active life, but seeing the inhaler in my rucksack, and getting reminded all the time as I was on my way out the door—“make sure to pack your inhaler!”—it sure left me feeling far from invincible.
