Meet the Ambassadors

Hello there, my name is Amarissa Haylee De Anda, and I am eighteen years old & I was also born and raised in East Los Angeles. What community personally means to me is family, a family who is stable and supports one another. One of my main achievements in getting out of this program is to overall benefit the environment and to be able to tell others about environmental issues and help our community achieve their goals and aspirations. One of my favorite hobbies would have to be doing nails; it is something I really enjoy.

My name is Angie Martinez, and I’m 16 years old. I’ve participated in some community service events that bring awareness about environmental justice. Community, to me, means a group of people who have the same dreams and goals and who will help each other be the best versions of themselves. My favorite hobbies are dancing folkorico and taking evening runs around Evergreen Cemetery.

Hello everyone! I’m Anthony Correa, a 22-year-old passionate about environmental and social justice. I intern at the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory and am currently studying physics with a focus on renewable energy. In my free time, I enjoy practicing the piano or playing Magic the Gathering with friends. One important part of community, for me, is sharing of food and fostering connections over meals.

My name is Claudia Quintero, and I am 22 years old. I recently graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a BA in Environmental Science, Economics, & Politics. In college, I completed research in environmental science, where I utilized R Studio to analyze the variations in concentrations of PM2.5, ozone, and NO2 in proximity to and away from highways in Los Angeles County and Harris County, TX. Community, to me, means a group of people connected by shared values and goals that create a sense of belonging among individuals. My hobbies include reading, going on runs, and exploring restaurants around LA.

My name is Dania Legido, and I’m 17 years old. I don’t have much experience with social justice or environmental justice, but I do hope to learn more about both topics from this program. In my opinion, community refers to a large, diverse family of individuals who you look out for and who are there to support you when you need them. I enjoy roller-staking, painting, writing, playing chess, playing piano, and reading.

Hi my name is Esmeralda Rodriguez I am 25 years old. I am a recreation assistant for Wabash Recreation Center and have been working there for about 5 years. I supervise and conduct activities for participants. I have volunteered in many community cleanups, tree planting, and food distribution events. Community means a group of people who are passionate and work together to make a positive change. My hobbies are hiking, dancing, and volunteering. Anything that has to do with the outdoors is also something I enjoy doing in my free time.

My name is Genesis Camargo, and I’m 24 years old. I’m currently volunteering with a nonprofit organization as a promoter for almost two years now. I’ve had a passion for social justice and grassroots work since I was 17 years old. I find that taking part in community development gives me the ability to help my fellow community members with opportunities, resources, and a voice. My hobbies are going to the gym and exploring nature.

My name is Isabella Huerta. I am 17 years old. I work with the Boyle Heights Tech Center in organizing events that will assist those in my community. Community, to me, means working together for the betterment of all of our lives; without community, there is no success in achieving what’s best for us all. My hobbies are painting on canvases and going for walks.

Hello, my name is Leslie Calel. I am 16 years old, and I attend Roosevelt High School. I volunteer for different programs that benefit the youth groups within my community, hoping to gain a better understanding of how we can support the needs of others. To me, community means the collaboration of people under similar circumstances supporting one another. I have found a place within the tennis, reading, and baking communities, as these are all hobbies I enjoy dedicating time to.
