This year at Climate Resolve we....
Advanced California’s indoor heat standard (AB 209) – and helped win a new Los Angeles County residential heat standard. We won a state resolution directing agencies to avoid climate maladaptation (SCR 50). We helped secure $23.5 million in Proposition 4 funds for the Governor’s Extreme Heat and Community Resilience program.
With Resilient Cities Catalyst, published the breakthrough report, Think Big and Act Boldly! Implementing Proven Solutions on Urban Fire. How Philanthropy Can Speed Recovery from the Eaton and Palisades Fires and Prepare Los Angeles for the Next Disaster. We served as a fiscal sponsor for the Dena Hive Consortium for fire-impacted community members in Altadena, and contributed to the Blue Ribbon Commission on Climate Action for Fire Safe Recovery.
Our Shine On Collaborative, which elevates the local and global climate benefits of cool surface technology, expanded its five working groups to over 250 participants across more than a dozen countries. We also produced a video with Bill Nye The Science Guy explaining the science of cool surfaces and their amazing potential to offset global warming. The video has been viewed over 200,000 times and reached over 140,000 social media accounts.
Advanced the Boyle Heights Buffer Zone initiative to reduce pollution and strengthen climate resilience. Working with Promesa Boyle Heights and their promotoras, we hosted two design workshops and three science walks where residents used thermal cameras and air quality monitors to quantify how heat, pollution, and noise are impacting their lives.
Partnered with East L.A. Community Corporation and Campos de Cultivo to host community gardening workshops at the Lorena Terrace Community Garden. The first workshop focused on food and soil health, featuring an interactive composting demonstration with participants receiving free compost pails and guides courtesy of L.A. City Department of Sanitation and Environment. The second workshop used the Accelerate Resilience LA Living Infrastructure Field Kit to help residents design a more climate-resilient garden – adding trees, shade, seating, and lighting to community plans.
Partnered with instructor Tim Jones to host emergency preparedness classes that taught community members how to safely enjoy the outdoors and likewise respond to emergencies and extreme heat.
Continued our partnership with the City of South El Monte, the Council for Watershed Health, Tetra Tech, Alta Planning, and Active SGV to redesign 1.3 miles of Merced Avenue into a greener, safer, and more resilient corridor.
Installed more than 40 cool roofs and 25 solar systems for single-family homeowners in Pacoima, Watts, and Wilmington. In Watts and Wilmington alone, installations totaled 44.19 kW, reduced emissions by 720.21 MTCO₂e, and are projected to save residents $300,000.
Launched cooling amenities projects in various parks: in City Terrace Park, at Eugene A. Obregón Park, and at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. The project will add trees, shade, hydration stations, and climate education programs in heat-vulnerable communities.
Conducted community outreach, in partnership with StreetsLA and T.R.U.S.T. South LA, to guide the placement of 40 city blocks of cool pavement. Through door-to-door engagement, surveys, and events like CicLAvia, residents expressed a preference for cooling streets near parks, schools, transit stops, and homes. Next, guided by community input, we’ll collaborate with StreetsLA to design a connected network of cool streets.
Supported community engagement for the 2025 OurCounty Sustainability Plan, a bold and equitable vision for L.A. County’s sustainable future. We helped disseminate the Countywide Survey – available in five languages – through a digital outreach campaign led by community-based organizations and at 24 pop-up events across Los Angeles County.
And in this moment, your support can directly shape the future we build together.
May the winds of change be at our back . . . moving us into a better 2026.
