Ignacio Fernandez is an economist with expertise in energy and environmental policy analysis, specifically the design and assessment of climate policy, regulations, and market mechanisms including emissions trading systems (ETS), carbon footprint programs, and official emission factors for electricity systems and fuels. Before joining Climate Resolve, Ignacio was the climate change specialist in Chile’s Ministry of Energy, where he managed projects in partnership with multilateral organizations such as the IEA, OECD, and the World Bank and participated in negotiations with the UNFCCC. He also served as an independent consultant on energy efficiency and carbon market projects in Latin America. Prior to that, Ignacio directed an energy efficiency program for Chile’s public sector, developing initiatives to reduce energy use and serving on international EE peer review committees in Japan, New Zealand, Chile, and Venezuela. He has a BA in economics from San Francisco State University and an MA in environmental studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Ignacio enjoys playing futbol, barbecuing, and spending time with his family.
