Good news for climate action in Los Angeles: The Los Angeles City Council approved Councilmember Paul Koretz’s climate motion to reduce greenhouse gases and help meet the city and state goals. The motion calls for serious greenhouse gas reductions:

  • By 2025, reduce GHG emissions 45% below 1990 levels
  • By 2035, reduce GHG emissions 60% below 1990 levels
  • By 2050, reduce GHG emissions 80% below 1990 levels

“Los Angeles is a leader among the world’s great cities working to blunt climate change.  In fact, our city’s 2025 goal is breathtaking,” said Executive Director Jonathan Parfrey. “By kicking coal, we jump to the front of the line, and show the world what climate leadership looks like.”

“In meeting with City Council offices over the last few weeks, I’ve noted political momentum toward ambitious and aggressive action,” said Director of Policy David Fink. “This action shows that Los Angeles is the tip of the spear when it comes to fighting climate change. There’s a lot of exciting work ahead.”
