Thomas Wong is the Board President of the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (SGVMWD), serving more than 200,000 residents in the communities of Alhambra, Monterey Park, Azusa, and Sierra Madre.
Thomas was elected onto the SGVMWD Board in November 2012 to represent the City of Monterey Park. In December 2015, he was elected as President of the District. Thomas initiates and leads efforts to provide clean and affordable water supply in a sustainable manner to the local communities. He has successfully championed efforts to better engage the community on important water issues, such as water conservation and California’s ongoing drought.
Through serving as a member and chair of the Monterey Park Environmental Commission, Thomas worked hard to help families and businesses save money and live healthier. He raised awareness about local environmental and quality of life issues to encourage community and individual action. His government affiliations continue with his role as a field representative for Assemblymember Mike Eng from 2010 to 2011. In this capacity, Thomas connected the Member and his constituencies through community and media engagement. Currently, he is special assistant to the California State Controller’s Office, serving as the key point of contact between Southern California’s diverse communities and the Controller.
Thomas graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s in Economics along with a Geography/Environmental Studies minor and later received his Master of Public Administration from USC.
