Michael Swords is the Board President of Climate Resolve and Vice President of Government Relations of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), an incubator dedicated to accelerating cleantech startups and innovations.
Michael’s commitment to research and innovations are demonstrated through his numerous board positions. Before serving on LACI’s board, Michael served as executive director of Strategic Research Initiatives and Global Partnerships within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) at UCLA. He was responsible for developing large, multi-disciplinary research centers and institutes and establishing partnerships with government agencies, foundations, industry, and non-profits. He also worked as an officer in UCLA’s Office of Federal Government Relations and was a legislative aide on Capitol Hill.
Aside from initiating change through UCLA, he was also served as Board President of Cleantech Los Angeles (CLA), which was a multi-institutional collaboration between educational and government institutions to establish Los Angeles as the global leader in research, commercialization, and deployment of clean technologies. Michael’s integral role on the Board of LACI strengthens relationships between the incubator’s companies and external entities.
Michael graduated from Whittier College with a B.A. in Political Science, and in December 2008, he completed UCLA’s Anderson School of Management’s Executive Education Program. Currently, Michael serves on the Board of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) and the Executive Advisory Committee for the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation.
